Title: Irises
Artist: Vincent Van Gogh
Re-creator: Rebecca B.
The artwork that I re-created is called Irises by Vincent van Gogh. Some fun facts that I learned about the artwork are that the artist lived from 1853-1890 and was Dutch. It was also created in France in 1889 and it was made with oil on a canvas. He used paints to make it. For my process of putting together my own re-creation using the items I found around me had many steps. First, I got all the materials from nature in my backyard. Then, I laid out all the grasses and wood chips. I finally included the flowers and placed them carefully.

Title: Still Life with Three Puppies
Artist: Paul Gauguin
Re-creator: Sammi D.
The art piece depicts three puppies in the back drinking out of a pan, some wine glasses, and fruit in a bowl/over a cloth. The puppies' patterns on their fur mirrors the botanical print of the tablecloth. Gauguin was inspired by these background designs from Japanese prints and wanted his art to be an abstraction. Getting the materials for this photo was pretty easy. Most of the stuff I had was from the kitchen and other things I had to make. Since the fruits by the wine glass had confusing colors, I just made my own "fruits" with ping pong balls and clay. Some challenges I had were finding the right (or close) colored objects that were similar to those in the painting and getting the right camera angle. I didn't expect it to take as long as it did, but it was a fun project.

Title: The Holy Family
Artist: Gerard David
Re-creator: Ariana T.
Me and my sister had a fun time trying to recreate this painting. Despite being of wildly different appearances, ages, gender and the fact that one only exists on a canvas, they give off the exact same impression: I don’t want to be here. I actually put on 3 different layers for this outfit. However you can only see my jacket. Overall it was a really great experience.

Title: The Spanish Pointer
Artist: John Buckler
Re-creator: Tyler K.
John Buckler was born in Calbourne, Isle of Wight on November 30, 1770. He died on December 6, 1851. He drew “The Spanish Pointer” in 1799. I made a recreation of the Spanish pointer using my backyard as the background. I also used one of my dogs, Teddy to represent the Spanish pointer dog in the original.

Title: PH-183
Artist: Clyfford Still
Re-creator: Joanna P.
The artwork that I chose is called PH-183 by Clyfford Still. I recreated this artwork with sticks and some dirt. This took place right outside my house. The process was just breaking some sticks and assembling it. Assembling it took about 15 minutes. It took some work but it was fun to do.

Title: Still Life with Apples
Artist: Paul Cézanne
Re-creator: Ethan B.
I re-created the Getty Museum Drawing Still Life with Apples by Paul Cézanne 1893-1894. So I went around my house first to find the three vases and bottle of alcohol. Then I grabbed all my apples and a few mangos to resemble the fruit. Then I grabbed a towel and blue floor mat and put it together to resemble the picture. I thought it was a fun assignment and a good challenge. I learned that this is a good challenge and not as easy as it looks.

Title: Portrait of Maria Frederike van Reede-Athlone at Seven Years of Age
Artist: Jean-Étienne Liotard
Re-creator: Lilly C.
The artwork I modeled my piece off of is “Portrait of Maria Frederike van Reede-Athlone at Seven Years of Age” by Jean-Étienne Liotard. Around the time this drawing was made, people were “changing their attitudes” about children and began having their portraits done. To recreate it, I gathered my younger sister, a towel, some white pants, a cat toy, and the cat herself. The only place in the house where we had a large enough blank wall was behind a bed, so I precariously balanced a stool on it for my models to sit on. The hardest part was getting my cat to cooperate. We ended up having to give her a small break after she broke free from our grasp. In the end, I got a picture I was satisfied with and nobody got scratched.

Title: Jatropha Multifidis
Artist: Ann Lee
Re-creator: Rosanne P.
For this art project, I chose the painting Jatropha Multifidis painted by Ann Lee. Ann Lee was born in 1753 and passed away in 1790. She painted this flower in 1771 using gouache, watercolor, pens and brown ink, and graphite on smooth, cream wove paper. I chose this painting because my mother loved to paint flowers when she was majoring in art in Korea. To recreate Lee's painting, I wanted to use food. For the flower itself, I used dried cranberries and tore them into small pieces. For the stem of the flower, I used chives, water celery, and common wormwood from my Grandma's garden. For the base, I used a large, white plate to act as the "canvas" of the painting.

Title: Early American Still Life with Steak
Artist: Sharon Core
Re-creator: Shawnette W.
The original artwork is titled Early American - Still Life with Steak by Sharon Core. The photograph was part of a series Core was doing based on still life paintings by Peale. Core would sometimes grow her own vegetable from heirloom seeds if she could not find similar vegetables from the paintings. For the recreation, I used a t-shirt, fountain pen holder, q tips, and a wooden 3D puzzle piece. Imagining what objects I would use was easy, but actually finding the objects was hard because I had to have already had the objects and they had to be a certain way. Setting the objects up was also much harder than it sounded, and the t-shirt kept shifting and also everything along with it. However the setting was easy to find and the lighting was easy to work with.

Title: Still Life with Apples
Artist: Paul Cézanne
Re-creator: Dillan Y.
I chose the artwork Still Life with Apples by Paul Cézanne from The Getty Museum. It is an oil on canvas painting and was created in 1893-1894. I chose to recreate this by finding stuff around my house I thought looked similar to the objects on the painting. The most difficult part of the process was trying to position the towels so they matched. I also found it difficult to get the right camera angle.

Title: The Boy Who Lived
Artist: Jim Kay
Re-creator: Ethan Z.
This author first started off illustrating the book series called,"Monster Calls." The book offer she had next at the ring of a phone call was from the Harry potter series, but not for just one book. It was for all seven. It was known to her as one of the most frightening things she ever had to do. This artist also doesn't have a specific style of artwork, but adopts a sort of scatter gram approach. When I was doing this remake I couldn't add everything I wanted. I was really trying to give my picture a background but the shadows I wasn't able to remake like in their artwork. I then tried to also replicate the face structure of Harry like mine which sort of worked. Although if everything isn't exactly as the artwork I think that their is some representation between the two.

Title: The Editor
Artist: Wolfgang Lettl
Re-creator: Sarah L.
After browsing online through all the different artwork, I chose to recreate “The Editor” painted by Wolfgang Lettl in 1987 because of its surreal nature and unique composition. This oil painting is a part of Lettl’s “Grey Series;” the theme of each painting is having a framed box with many objects inside the frame. This was created using elements of surrealism where he experiments with different styles-- objects that don’t suit each other in a bizarre setting and surreal compositions. My sister helped take a photo of my recreation. To recreate this artwork, I used tissue paper and papers coming out from my mouth, replicating the person’s face in the painting, and used potatoes for the rocks. Only the person’s face is showing so to cover the background I used a blanket. The recreation process was really fun and I enjoyed coming up with creative ways to take this photo!

Title: Madonna and Child
Artist: Master of St. Cecilia
Re-creator: Zane S.
This is Madonna and Child by Master of St. Cecilia. In order to create this painting I wanted to do something simple yet creative. I also knew I wanted to include my cat in it so I chose a project with a small figure like a baby. The real painting is of Virgin Mary supporting Christ with her left arm. The format and scroll seen in the painting reflect Byzantine culture of the late 1200's. The gaze between the two helps represent the connection between mother and son,Mary and Christ.

Title: Autumn Fog
Artist: Leonid Afremov
Re-creator: Mya H.
I chose this piece of art to recreate because I loved how vivid the colors were. the painting was created using oil paint and a palette knife. This piece shows the mysticism of dying nature, and a path to uncertainty. The process to making my piece was not too hard. I found one white piece of paper, then found some pieces of a light grey and dark navy-ish color. Since I am quite the LEGO builder, I went through my LEGOs to find some small pieces that would match the bright red and orange theme. To represent the trees, I found some dark color pencils and used my moms eyebrow pencils. Lastly to show my little people in the fog, I went to my yard and picked up two of the smallest wood chips I could find. This truly was a fun piece of art to recreate.

Title: Girl With The Pearl Earring
Artist: Johannes Vermeer
Re-creator: Hila K.
One of the fun facts that I learned about "Girl with A Pearl Earring" is that no one really knows for sure who the girl is. Some of the other facts are: Its black background was once a glossy green. Often Girl with a Pearl Earring is referred to as the "Mona Lisa of the North." The earring that the girl is wearing probably wasn’t a real pearl. When I was trying to recreate this painting I had to find blue and gold turban, I didn't find the exact colors but it kinda worked. I found a earring but it exactly the same size. It was challenging to recreate this painting but it was a fun process.

Title: Still Life with Apples
Artist: Paul Cézanne
Re-creator: Katherine Z.
Still Life with Apples by Paul Cézanne is an oil painting that was created from 1893-1894. Cézanne painted the same green vase, rum bottle, ginger pot, and apples throughout multiple paintings. He used them to experiment with shape, color, and lighting. To recreate this painting, I had a green vase, wine bottle, apples, plates, towels, and cloth that were similar to the objects. For the components that I did not have, such as the ginger pot, I used objects that were similar in shape. The background seemed like a blue wall, which I did not have, so I used a purplish-blue blanket in the background. There also seemed to be a darker purplish-blue table on which the objects were sitting on, and I used a purple jacket to recreate that.

Title: The Last Supper
Artist: Leonardo da Vinci
Re-creator: Annika B.
For my piece, I chose to recreate The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. While researching this piece, I learned the symbolism of the placement of the apostles (grouped in threes), and that Judas was purposefully in dimmer lighting in order to set him apart as the traitor, an effect which I achieved by lowering the brightness of and slightly desaturating my Judas picture. I also included a spilled salt shaker next to him like Leonardo da Vinci famously did. In order to make it, I had to take photos of myself as each apostle, as well as photos of objects on the table, then edit them all together on top of a picture of my empty kitchen table. I also needed to do some editing to the colors of the wardrobe in order to set the characters apart. It was really fun to pose like all of the different characters and to drape random clothing items on me to recreate the robes of the men. Special thanks to Nina, my amazing photographer/director/little sister!

Artist: Jean-Étienne Liotard
Re-creator: Maggie W.
I learned that this painting was Swiss and from the years 1755-1756. The artist used pastels for his work, and one of his reasons for using pastel was that it had no odor. I used my mom's shawl, a fake blue flower, some athletic wrap, and an inside out headband for the clothes. I also added some blush. The other subject is my cooperative pug Yogi.

Title: Still Life with Bowl of Citrons
Artist: Giovanna Garzoni
Re-creator: Katie W.
I found out this artwork was made in the late 1640's in Italy which was fascinating to me because that's a very long time ago. When attempting to recreate this artwork, I faced some difficulties. One of the biggest challenges was to find materials that can replicate the artwork. I decided to use pears instead of citrons because they were the only things I could find. Pears were also somewhat easier to balance when placing the objects on a plate.

Title: The Star
Artist: Edgar Degas
Re-creator: Haley P.
The title of the piece of art that I chose is “The Star” and the artist is Edgar Degas. The piece was created in the late 1870’s and used a combination of print image and pastel. He made the image of the ballet dancers by putting ink on a copper plate, and then transferring the image to paper; similar to the process of using a printing press. He then added pastel detailing to enhance the artwork. I chose Degas specifically because he is famous for his paintings of ballet dancers. Since I am a ballet dancer, I thought it would be fitting to recreate. First, I took pictures of myself in the same poses Degas illustrated. I then put the photos into Photoshop, where I cut them out and placed them on a background that I painted digitally, using the original artwork as inspiration. Then, I printed the image out, and added the tutus and flowers using glue and tissue paper. It was interesting to create a mixed-media piece of art like this, because I combined my digital art skills with photography, ballet, and physical materials.

Title: American Gothic
Artist: Grant Wood
Re-creator: Annabelle I.
This is my homemade representation of the American Gothic by Grant Wood. This piece was created with things I had around my house and stars my brother and his girlfriend (who is quarantined with us). The biggest obstacle was finding clothes that matched the farmers in the painting, since we don’t have the exact outfits we made due with what we do have. We also don’t own or know anyone who owns a pitch fork so the broom was our creative solution. Lastly I put some grainy filters on the photo and edited the color so it would have the same old timey look as the original painting. This was really fun to make and hopefully people will know what it is when they see it.

Artist: Unknown from Pompeii, Italy (mosaic was at the entrance of The House of the Tragic Poet)
Re-creator: Natalee Chan
I wanted to recreate an art piece with my dog. I got a picture of him bowing while with his dog friends and it looks just like the famous mosaic from Pompeii. It was recently restored and put on display. It served as warning sign; it was one of the first “Beware of Dog” signs.

Title: Still Life with Books and Musical Instruments
Artist: Jan Vermeulen
Re-creator: Angela Z.
This painting was created in 1660 by Vermeulen. Now it is exhibited in the Mauritshuis Museum. Although I have not heard of this artist before, I loved this artwork because it gives me an elegant feeling with the book and instrument. It was fun to find things lying around my house to re-create the artwork, and I even took out my violin (which I haven't played for a year). I did not have a lot of the instruments, so I found similar things to replace it like a tube to replace the flute.

Title: Waiting
Artist: Edgar Degas
Re-creator: Sonja R.
Waiting is an impressionist pastel piece by Edgar Degas completed between the years 1880-1882. I was inspired to recreate it because my younger sister is a ballet dancer, and when I saw it I immediately thought of her. To recreate it, I started by pushing a coffee table against the wall to use as the bench. My sister dressed in her ballet leotard and pointe shoes, and we used a blue tutu from an old Halloween costume for the skirt; my mom dressed in all black. I positioned them on the bench and instructed them in posing to match the picture, and I photographed them while standing on a chair to get the higher up point of view. I did a lot of editing in photoshop to change the colors of my photo to match the original picture: I turned the skirt from bright blue to lighter blue-white, the umbrella from red to black, the walls from beige to tan, and the floors from reddish brown to greenish brown. I also enlarged a piece of the coffee table/bench, lightened my sister's hair, and extended the floors to give more space in front of the people.

Title: Still Life with Apples
Artist: Paul Cézanne
Re-creator: Gabi K.
I chose to recreate Still Life with Apples, 1893–1894, Paul Cézanne. I had a lot of fun trying to recreate this oil painting, and it was fun trying to find items around my household to make up the painting. When I saw the painting I knew I would be able to do it except finding something for the teapot and the blue vase was kind of hard. I also wanted the green vase to look like the painting so I grabbed a vase and painted it green myself(with permission) just to make the recreation of the photo more like it. I also altered other objects and used many towels. I tried to make sure many of the objects were all connected to each other just how the artist intended the painting to be. I admire how he spent so much of his life mainly recreating paintings that are the same just so he could improve, and it ended up being worth it for his paintings to become famous.

Title: Portrait of Halberdier
Artist: Jacopo Carucci
Re-creator: David K.
I chose portrait of Halberdier by Jacopo Carucci. I chose option #1. I tried to make the clothes white instead of black but I didn't have enough white materials to cover the entire body. I was going to do crucifixion, however I thought it could've been offensive to some Christians even though I am one too. Even though the lego figure that I created wasn't in really good quality, using lego was pretty good idea.

Title: Mona Lisa
Artist: Leonardo Da Vinci
Re-creator: Megan W.
I put my sloth as Mona Lisa. The view from my window acts as the background seen in Leonardo Da Vinci's painting. The sloth is angled in a position similar to Mona Lisa's. However, the sloth beats Mona Lisa in terms of looks.

Title: Flower Still Life
Artist: Ambrosius Bosschaert
Re-creator: Elise V.
The Flower Still Life was created in 1614 by Ambrosius Bosschaert. Bosschaert was one of the first artists who specialized in flower paintings. This piece of artwork, as well as many others, was painted on copper. I was inspired to re-create this painting because the vibrant flowers and butterflies remind me of the various flowers that bloom during springtime. I used a vase with fake flowers and some real flowers from my backyard to re-create this piece. Since I couldn't catch real butterflies, I used fake butterflies that were attached on my wall in my room. Overall, I had a great time re-creating this piece.

Title: Statue of Jupiter
Artist: Unknown
Re-creator: Chris Do
The art I recreated is a statue of the God Jupiter, sitting down with a robe on. He may have been holding a lightning bolt or a scepter in his arm that was broken off. It was originally created in the Marbury Hall in England. I used a large teddy bear that was won by my family at a fair, and some blankets as the robe. I put him in my chair, and wrapped the blankets around him.

Title: Still life with Apples
Artist: Vincent Van Gogh
Re-creator: Nathan P.
I already made an apple art piece before your classroom post and I tried to make it as accurate as possible. This one is by Van Gogh so hopefully this means it is a little better ;). I based my art off of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Still life with Apples” and I tried to make do with what I had. There were only a couple of apples in my fridge so I used potatoes, leamons, and onions as substitutes for the slightly larger apples. When looked at the background it looked like a hostage of different colors. While I couldn't make out any shapes I decided to use a background that was predominantly green and brown. This background is a particular area of grass in my yard that had dirt showing. When I finally was matching up the fruits and starches I was going to use I tried to make them face the same direction and keep the spacing to show how it is in the painting.

Title: Simon de Varie Kneeling in Prayer
Artist: Jean Fouquet
Re-creator: Ryan Zeroll
Some fun facts about the piece in that the Jean Fouquet is french and she created the art peace in 1455 as a partial gift of Gerald F. Borrmann. The piece is 11.4 × 8.3 cm (4 1/2 × 3 1/4 in.). Also Varie's personal mottoes decorate the border which also gives the piece a greater correction to Varie. The original artwork was created using Northern Renaissance style. Because of my different hobbies i was able to collect what was needed based on similarities in looks and shapes. For example i used my cardboard chewbacka to represent the person holding the vase behind Varie. Finally I had to find a good spot that had good lighting and where i was able to hang up a sheet representing the curtain. My picture shows a strong similarity connection to the original piece.

Title: Roses
Artist: Vincent Van Gogh
Re-creator: Ruchira H.
When I was putting together my photo I made sure to look for green items to capture the overall theme of Van Gogh's piece. I also wanted to make the flowers look airy and expressive, so I decided to use paper scraps. I could not figure out a way to make the roses look as expressive as they were in the painting. A fun fact about this painting was that the roses used to be pink, but they ended up fading over time. Van Gogh wanted to make them pink for a contrast between complementary colors. Overall, I think this painting has a very gorgeous loose and expressive style and I tried to emulate that in my photograph.

Title: Portrait of Maria Frederike Van Reede-athlone
Artist: Jean-Étienne Liotard
Re-creator: Marley W.
The art work that I chose is a pice called “portrait of maria frederike van reede-athlone”. The painting was made when Maria was seven years old. It was done in pastel and was completed in 1756. Maria was the daughter of a Dutch aristocrat. The painted was jean etienne liotard. He was a Swiss painter who would specialize in pastels especially when painting children because the were easy to manipulate and allowed for frequent interruptions.

Title: Still Life with Apples
Artist: Paul Cézanne
Re-creator: Elizabeth C.B.
I had a fun time gathering items from around the house to use for my recreation. Of course, I don’t have the exact items used in the painting, so I had to improvise with different shapes objects and a number of different colors. The color scheme of the painting, using a number of cool, dark colors, was a great choice by the artist. The perspective used was hard to recreate, but I tried my best. I had to use some green apples as well, since we were running out of the reds.

I recreated the artwork Still Life with Apples by Paul Cézanne. In the last 30 year of Cézanne's life he painted the same objects. He used these objects to experiment with color, lighting, and shape to give the paintings a feeling of stability. I used items I found in my kitchen to recreate this painting. I tried to match the shape of the items as close as possible to the original artwork.
