This piece was inspired by daily routines, which I chose to represent through repetition of breakfast foods. Eating breakfast each day is a really important part of my routine that allows me to start the day feeling productive, so I chose to paint three of the foods I most frequently eat for breakfast- cereal, toast, and waffles. I painted 3 different pieces and then photographed and duplicated them to create repetition because in order to convey the theme of a repeated daily routine. I was sort of inspired by the pop art movement and artists like Warhol and Thiebaud, which you can see in both the element of repetition as well as the bright colors.

This artwork is meant to emphasize the force that embeds an object with personal importance. I wanted to replace a section of my bedside shrine with art to parallel the embodiment of an idea into an object with converting an idea into an object (art). Having my personal paint style allowed for the objects pictured in this photo to develop a sense of importance separate from a cultural perspective that commonly defines objects ( ie. money, religious objects and such).

This is a drawing of my kitchen utensils. Since the quarantine started, I have been cooking and baking with my family. Im not very good at it, but I'm learning. It really connects me to my family , and we have a lot of fun. I love baking cookies with my little sister and then watching a movie together.

As I've continued through daily life, I have found comfort in my laptop. Laptops allow us to connect to our friends and family through video calls, games, or the internet, as we are all physically separated. In this political cartoon style piece, laptops are portrayed as satellites in space that can connect people even as they are away from one another. The Earth is surrounded by a bubble to represent how our lives have become bubbles as we remain confined to our homes. However, the laptops reach past the "bubble of social distancing" to allow people to safely connect. With the severity of the situation, even the Moon, the Earth, and the laptops have facemasks to protect themselves.

Link the Knight (from “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” game) I decided to draw Link because I’ve been playing this game on my Nintendo Switch Lite in my free time. It’s an amazing game and I really like the animation of the characters. I would like to draw Zelda soon when I meet her later in the story. It’s been a wild race to find a Switch as they have been sold out on and off through quarantine. I was very lucky so I decided to draw something to show my gratuity.

I would want people to know that my artwork is inspired by what i have been doing during quarantine to connect with people and stay occupied. Most nights my family tries to play a board game and it mostly ends up being scrabble. All of the words on the scrabble board fit together to create words that describe this pandemic.

Why did I paint a toaster? I don't really know. I enjoyed trying to get the specific texture of my toaster down, and the metallic highlights were fun to paint. I've been using the toaster pretty much every day to make my lunch, which wasn't something I could do before I was home every day. It helps me enjoy lunch just a little bit more every day, and a little encouragement is just what a lot of people need in these times. So I guess you could say there's a deep reason for painting a toaster after all...

I wanted to show something that I have been using a lot lately, which is my nintendo switch. It keeps me entertained when I’m bored in quarantine. To go above and beyond an ordinary still life piece, I added a hand coming out of the switch and illustrated a fist bump. I wanted to show that my switch has become my buddy when I am not talking to my friends and when I need something to do in general. I chose a fist bump to show how it has become more important to me as an item that provides a break from my school workload that has become heavier than I had thought. Online school is actually kind of a lot but the free time when I can do other stuff and escape endless google classroom assignments motivates me to get my work done.

During quarantine, I have been watching many movies and tv shows. Recently, I have been watching a lot of Disney+, specifically watching all the marvel movies. I painted Iron Man, because it was the first movie I watched it when starting my marvel movie journey. Iron man is also one of my favorite characters from the Marvel universe. Being able to watch different movies with family has helped me relax.

The drawing/painting was done in GIMP. At the time, I was trying out a different art style, so the lineart is pretty thick and kind of messy. The shading also is different from what I would usually do, and aims for contrast. This is mostly for dramatic effect. The cracks on the screen could be symbolism for a lot of things, but I didn't draw them with anything specific in mind. As a whole, it's pretty messy, which also describes my daily routine, which kinda varies depending on what I feel like doing.

For this assignment, I decided to turn away from the everyday objects and focus on a theme from our first assignment and express it in a new way. This artwork is of a dark god kingdom, inspired by Mount Olympus with a dark twist to it. The theme I had for assignment one was all about space, and becoming one with the stars. This city explores a different approach to celestial connection, one much darker and filled with malice. It demonstrates the balance between light and dark that is necessary for existence. These themes are quite deep, to be sure, but I think about them a lot and they make great foundations for fun and amazing artwork (the ideas, at least).

I painted a picture of my downstairs kitchen. Every week my sister and I make a “Family Night” where my sister and I bake desserts, set up a game and a movie, and make the living room all comfortable. Baking for the family night is one of my favorite things to do and I always have my computer with me so I can see the ingredients for what I am about to bake and to listen to music. I use more computer for so much more like work and shopping, as you can see there is an amazon tab open shopping for rollerblades because I love riding them so much. If I ever just need to go outside with the wind in my face, I can rely on my rollerblades.
Artist: Gabrielle K. |
For my artwork I drew one of my favorite characters with a face mask. The face mask is a item that I use everyday when I go outside. I think it is an important thing to use so i'm able to be more safe. The character is from a web comic called Hooky. I've started reading the comic a few days into quarantine and it's really helped cure my boredom through out social distancing.

If my artwork was in a gallery I want the viewers to acknowledge how important it was or is to wash your hands. Although many people quickly rinse and are done, they are doing it all wrong. To completely get rid of germs, it takes 20 seconds of scrubbing your hands with soap. I insist that if anyone was viewing my artwork to stay safe, and take care of you and your family.

Making this piece I wanted to use some of my most frequent objects and ones that I used to promote my self care. I chose my water glass and and the see through glass specifically because, I feel psychologically when I see my water I am more prone to drinking it. And within the water I put my lip balm as both offer me hydration, but in different forms/ways. lastly I had my laptop in the left side of my photo, I didnt want it to be a main focus in my painting because I don't specifically use it for self-care but to watch videos/ research ways to better do self care. It's also slightly hidden, but I included my headphones, as they are plugged into my computer.
Artist: Angelina O. |
For this assignment, I painted the objects that are most important during quarantine. Since I haven't been able to go outside, I've been spending 90% of my time on my bed, so I wanted to include it. I included my phone because that's how I communicate to my friends and watch Youtube/Netflix. I included my laptop since all classes are online, I spend a lot of time on my laptop finishing assignments. I included my 2DS because I've been playing a lot of animal crossing when I'm bored. I included a coffee mug because I've been drinking coffee. I included my pencil and eraser because I've had more time to draw.

This piece is titled "absorbed" and is meant to represent my state of being at home during quarantine. The piece is designed to illicit feelings of isolation, and a lack of connection. On the left a figure is scene floating as though he no longer is grounded to reality. His head is surrounded by sets of headphones while his phone is larger than him to show how he's been absorbed, if comforted, by constantly being engaged with his phone. The bright green shows an unnatural glow as if to suggest that this act is unhealthy.

I really wanted to emphasize that my role in the house right now is just the cook. I am the only family member, aside my mother, that can cook proper meals for every time of the day, and since she is constantly working, the responsibility has befallen me. I really feel like nothing else makes me happier right now that being able to stand at the stove and cook my family a good meal and to get my mind off of current happenings.
Artist: Dagin G. |
The sunflower are actually a part of a larger mural that I painted on my door during quarantine. This prompt inspired my to paint things that I normally just take for granted. Every morning, after I get dressed, I check on all my plants. My personal favorite are the sunflowers that grow in the back yard. Because of this I wanted to keep their image around even after they stop flowing.

As people view my artwork, I want them to know that even though COVID-19 has cause a lot of people to lose their jobs and to lose their family members, we are going to survive it. We are going to survive it by taking care of ourselves and we are going to try and stay positive throughout it by surrounding ourselves with things that make us happy like our family, and anything else that you could get happiness and relaxation from.

I decided to draw my stuffed animal because even though it is not an object I really “use”, it’s very important to me. This stuffed animal keeps me happy, calm, and makes me feel safe. During these times, when I have felt lonely because I can’t see my friends, this bear has made me feel less lonely and like a friend to me.
Artist: Karina A. |
This drawing was inspired by my favorite drink of all: coffee. It is the thing that wakes me up in the morning and gives me energy. I think this was a great way to take my mind off any stresses right now. I just looked at my coffee thermos and drew. I would encourage others to do it too. Sometimes all someone needs is to get off a screen and take sometime reading or drawing.

None of the objects I listed were good contenders for me (a beginner) to draw. So, I decided to dig into a storage closet next to where I paint and I found an oldsmobile mug in a box. My dad used to run an oldsmobile dealership in the very early 2000s, so the mug was probably as old as me, or older. Usually, I rush drawings in order to finish it as soon as possible, but I decided to sketch it out and try out basic shading. It was difficult, but I really focused on the object rather than the drawing itself, and took into considerations the way the light hit different angles. There are also three blind contour drawings pictures, one where I tried to put a paintbrush inside, but I later removed it.
Artist: Lauren G. |
For this project I produces four drawings; three blind contour drawings and one final, inked piece. I chose to draw my laptop for all of these photos because it has been the thing that I have used the most, every day. My computer has acted as my window to the world outside my house (I had only been leaving the house to go on runs or walk my dog) and my means of communication with friends and family members. I chose to do the blind contour option because I feel like it helps my observational drawing a lot, and gets me into the right head space to draw. I also chose to have the final piece be line contour because my laptop is shades of gray and black, and I felt that it was difficult to highlight the details and shade the picture.
Artist: Nora H. |
In my art, I drew 3 blind contour drawings and an observational drawing of one of my favorite objects: my ukulele. I play the ukulele anytime I feel inspired, anxious, or simply bored. Because of the current situation with COVID-19, playing the ukulele has been the perfect outlet to both stimulate my brain and enjoy spending time at home. While producing my blind contour drawings, I noticed little details of the instrument I hadn’t paid attention to before. This helped when creating my observational drawing, as I had become accustomed to the minutiae of the instrument.

This is a drawing of my laptop. Since the start of online school I have been using my laptop much more. My laptop is very important because it helps me get my online homework done faster. This is nice because I get more time to do fun things and relax. My laptop is one of the most important things in my daily routine and I am very glad to have it.
Artist: Tyler K. |
When you look at my artwork you'll see that you can make out what the drawings are even though it's a blind contour. You'll see that there are details that add depth to the drawings. The earbuds aren't supposed to look tangled if they're put together well, but you can see that it still looks very complicated and messy. Small details do play a big part on my drawings. The beauty in earbuds is that no matter how hard you try to make less messy or tangled it will still in some way look the same.
Artist: Hila K. |
My rightmost drawing is a lightbulb. This everyday object burnt out so I decided to draw it. The top left drawing is a few pieces from the board game The Settlers of Catan. I play this game with my family a lot, so I created a scene from the game where the robber is on top of a settled wood tile. The bottom drawing is the top drawing except abstract. I simplified the objects into colored silhouettes.

This piece reflects an important item in my everyday life during quarantine, toothpaste. It’s just apart of my daily routine that has slowly been dragged on as a result of the pandemic. I chose to do a contour line drawing of this object, because I felt that this was best suited due to its material which gave it many curves. I changed “Colgate” to “Covid-19” to reflect the current situation in the world. The toothpaste coming out is supposed to resemble toxic waste because of its sheer size. In the back is a person, meant to symbolize how our fate in the pandemic is determined by our response as a society. We can walk away and pay no mind like this person does, or become responsible individuals who can control this virus’s outcome .

During this corona break from school, I realized the difficulties in wisely managing the extra hours given to me. My sleep schedule has grown unsteadier and ultimately unhealthier, while organizing the large amounts of assignments independently piled up more and more stress as the days went on. I found myself in a vicious cycle, unable to concentrate due to stress and disorganization, unable to finish work in an orderly schedule after procrastination, and as a result unable to find time to enjoy activities I love to do, such as reading, listening to music, or playing the piano. I chose an alarm clock as the subject of this artwork in order to emphasize the significance of healthily managing time. Of course, it is important to get school work done, but keeping oneself emotionally, mentally, and socially strong should also be treasured each day.Things such as contacting friends through modern technology, doing hobbies you love to cope with stress, and taking care of your sleep hours should have their own irreplaceable placement in our timetables. Remember that although putting effort to be a good student is great, effort should also personally be put in to be a happy student as well.

This is a contrast drawing of my water bottle that has many stickers on it right now. I chose to draw this because I thought that it was different and I use it everyday. To the right of the observational drawing is my blind contrast drawings that don’t look to great. The angles I chose to draw these from were looking strait at it, looking down on it from the top, and when the water bottle is flat on its side. I use my water bottle everyday now because I am working out everyday and just constantly drinking water. I also had just put stickers on it and thought that it would be a fun thing to draw.

For this project, I chose to draw my calendar. I included three blind contour and one sketch of the calendar. Ripping off one page a day reminds that time is still elapsing thought I am in quarantine. And for the creative aspect of this project, I duplicated the calendar page for today in red. It contained one line of poetry from Lü Bicheng that matches the phrase of the day, according to my calendar, of recognizing the desolate aspects of life.

The peace of work is based off of one of the everyday objects that I use during quarantine. The object I chose is a tennis ball, I use the tennis ball multiple times a day by playing catch. Playing catch helps calm me and gives me exercise during the quarantine. By the use of black, gray, and white colors from the pencil i was able to show a representation color and use of black, gray, and white colors. As an addition to my tennis ball drawing I also drew a tennis racket laying on top of the tennis ball and on the grass to give the drawing a setting. Finally the last part of my project was the 3 blind contour drawings which is helpful because it allows you to practice drawing what you see and not what you think the object looks like. With these blind contour drawings I colored the background to the the drawings stand out.

In my artwork I drew my phone because it is an object I use everyday for almost everything. I started out this drawing by setting my phone in the this position and followed the edges of my phone case. I tried to draw as realistically as I could by following the different proportions and lines of my phone. When I started drawing the lines of the cracks in my screen I realized I could continue that theme of lines and cracks in the background. So I continued to the cracked pattern all around the phone. The cracked theme is important because of how much we use our phones for our social lives online, and during the pandemic we are using devices even more. So the cracked screen is a metaphor for our online personas in social media cracking and leaking into our real selves. I made this piece to convey that even though everything is online we must still make sure we are still our real selves and not just an online persona.

I received this case a week ago as a gift and since then, I’ve been captivated by its weird face. I wanted to draw it partially because it brings me joy when I look at it, and partially because I can use it for an unlimited number of things: holding flowers, pencils, or pens, as a pot, or even as a mug. It’s been sitting on my desk for a while and I really wanted to capture its essence, per se. It’s important to recognize the little things that bring you joy in such a weird time for the world.

We are back to racing against time during an hour in which we have none. Individuals across America, especially, are giving their most valiant effort to curb this disaster before it's too late. But how much longer do we have? The clock continues ticking even if it's what's inside that's broken. Time waits for no one; 12 o'clock approaches steadily as workers grow weary, as supplies dwindle, as the nation is put to the test. What awaits us on the other side? Only time will tell.

For my project I drew a recorder. Lately I have had some more time on my hands, so I have been learning some songs on the recorder for fun. It helps me have some fun and distract myself. I drew my contour drawings from the side, facing front, and from the back. I have been able to learn some songs such as the spongebob theme song during my time.
Artist: Chris D. |
Probably the most frustrating thing to draw cause of all the three dimensional curves. If this was in a gallery I’d probably say take it easy you try and draw a skateboard 😂. On the other hand it taught me a lot and it reminded me of the project that we did of the front facing shoe of how we try and draw the full length when we should really just be trying to draw the lines accordingly.
Artist: Nemo L. |
One of the options was to chose and everyday item and do an observational drawing of it. I chose a toothbrush as my everyday object. When doing and observational drawing there are steps that help you add detail and see the object differently. Part of this process is blind contour drawings and I did. three. Then I look at the detail of the toothbrush and I did an outline. Finally to add more detail I added shading.

This drawing represents my love of soccer and my desire to travel. This soccer ball is inspired by a similar ball my mom brought back with her when she went to Spain. The colors represent the soccer team Real Madrid, my favorite team. Whenever I look at the ball, I am reminded of my mother and how happy I was when I first got it. I hope that this ball will inspire others to give love to their families.
Artist: Darius Y. |
I chose Option #2, which required me to draw 2-3 objects. My first drawing is of my computer. I use this to help me learn how to stay safe during these times, as well as to provide me with entertainment. This is why there's a poster of hand washing. My other drawing is of a pencil and notebook, which is also on the computer screen. I do most of my work on pencil and paper still, and it's how I can learn and stay productive during this time.

If my work was in a gallery, I would want people to know that during quarantine, I have been very bored and one of the things to provide me with comfort and something to do is my guitar. After spending time sitting and staring at a computer for hours on end doing school work and other activities, it is nice to have an escape.
Artist: Dillan Y |
If my art was hung up in a museum I would want the spectators to notice the picture before my line contour drawings. I intentionally tried to hide them in the picture to show that if we focus on the errors what doesn’t work we can’t see the whole picture. It is my hope that spectators will notice the whole picture first and what it symbolizes before looking at the shapes making it up. I also hope that they are confused at what they are seeing. It is funny to me how so many opinions can be formed on the same artwork and I would hope that the spectators come up with their own interpretations instead of mine.
Artist: Nathan P. |
I chose Option #2 for my drawing. First, I drew a running shoe since I wear them daily when taking a walk or jog in my neighborhood. I also drew facial cleanser and cream. For me, one aspect of self-care is moisturizing my face in the morning. This makes me feel refreshed and ready for the day. For the creative component of my drawings, I included zentangle designs on my shoe.
Artist: Elise V. |
This artwork is a rendering of my computer that I use for pretty much everything. It is important for the schoolwork and connecting with my friends. I did a simple recreation at first, but it seemed too boring and so I incorporated the rainbow keyboard and expanded it out past the computer itself to fill space. I made the lighting erratic and wild to demonstrate the variety of possibilities that it provides. The lack of fine detail also illustrates the blending of time that I am feeling doing the same thing every day over and over again.
Artist: Keller E. |
I enjoy these sketches much more than my previous artwork. I was rushed, pressed for time with my music related piece and I felt I cut corners while making it. This one I took my time, spending around 1.5 hours on the mouse and 2-3 hours on the miniature. One of the objectives of the project was to "do something creative or unexpected." Now I really wanted to keep my drawing as pure recreations of their physical counterparts so instead I decided to change the medium to something I had never used before, Charcoal. Before committing to an object I went on youtube and searched "Charcoal vs graphite" and have now been thoroughly convinced that I had been missing out on so much. Recently I took an art history class and I grew fond of baroque style pieces. Blinding light shining onto a scene casting deep black shadows was one of the characteristics I wanted to recreate with mine. However with graphite I never could get a black dark enough. Thanks to my new discovery of charcoal I have found a way to make my images pop more.

I drew a picture of my watch, because I put it on everyday even when I can check the time whenever I want with my phone now. It has been a habit for me, and now I cannot change it. In the center of the drawing is the watch, and on the top is my three blind contour drawings. The background is what I spent the most time designing it. My inspiration came from my friend, she told me that I can connect the watch (which is also the symbol of time) with how we use time. During this pandemic, some people seek medical help, some people stay healthy. Some people take good use of time and improve a lot, while some waste away their time. The red and green show a contrast, in both color and meaning, but all spirals come to the middle to show that we should all unite together during this time.

What I'd want my viewers to know about my artwork as they are looking at it is my piece is three blind contour drawings and one observational drawing. I used a hand sanitizer bottle because it's definitely an essential object or thing to be using right now (along with the theme of the assignment). I was surprised that you can tell it's hand sanitizer from my blind contour drawings (except for the top view one). Also, for the observational drawing of the bottle, I didn't think I'd run out of room but it looks kind of interesting cut off. Lastly, on the observational drawing there's less intricacy towards the bottom but I tried to include some things like the hand sanitizer blotches.
Artist: Sammi D. |
If people were to see this in a gallery, I would want them to know that this drawing is based on my favorite stuffed animal. However, it is not necessarily an "animal." It is a sewn plush of Totoro from 'My Neighbor Totoro' by Studio Ghibli. I bought it while I was in Japan, so it is very special to me. I chose to draw it because it brings me a lot of comfort just seeing it everyday, while I am in my room.
Artist: Talia A. |
My two items that i drew were my phone and my computer. My phone is important to me because it allows me to keep in contact with friends and family to make sure they are safe. This allows me to also play games and provide other entertainment. My computer allows me to connect to do homework and play other games that i can’t play on my phone. These 2 make quarantine successful and enjoyable.

As social interaction decreases, technology interaction increases. Due to the pandemic, this is something the entire world is facing. I have been connecting with my friends, teachers, and family all through technology and that made me consider: “am I connecting with people or with tech?” So I decided to make my artwork center around that. Learning, playing, talking, and entertainment are all enclosed in technology during this tough time.

I think that without our devices the corona break would be so much more difficult. Though newspapers are still a thing, without our devices as a source of information many people would go unknowing about whether or not the situation is getting better or worse. Overall, I believe our electronics have a severely helped aid all people through bringing us together and keeping us informed!
