I would like any audience looking at this portrait piece to know that it is meant to express the way I have felt during the quarantine. The high level of lighting contrast illustrates a dramatic feeling of dread. The subdued facial expression illustrates a somber mood of boredom and perhaps a disappointment. The face also shows a feeling of disinterest as they become more isolated from the world. The clothing choice further cements this feeling of lacking and disinterest

I want my viewer to understand sadness of missing so many important things of high school. As a senior, it is sad that i wont be able to get to have my senior prom and spend time with my friends as planned. Prom is one of speical events for seniors since it would be the final school dance for them, only for it to be taken away.

I think often during times of crisis there seems to be a need adopt a new, serious and stoic lifestyle, where many activities that might bring personal happiness are seen as superfluous in confronting that crisis. This painting, hopefully, is a reminder that happiness still continues, no matter a condition or restriction. It shows that the dichotomy drawn between seriousness and happiness is a false one, and both can coexist and are necessary in responding to a crisis. I hope viewers will see the painting's significance to adding to covid-19 era art without directly addressing it. Some symbolism that addresses covid-19 includes: a joyfulness of each of the people while also being being "quarantined" in a room, in a square, ultimately in a phone.

This painting is about my dog, Bella. The painting is a gift to my mother, and is meant to make the viewer feel calm. My dog brings a lot of joy to the family, which is what we need during the quarantine. Since my dog is so joyful, I thought others could enjoy her as well. I want viewers to realize everything will be ok and there a lot of ways to be happy even while in quarantine. I painted this for my mom to enjoy while not being allowed to go out so she feels more at peace. The medium is gouache paint on an 8 inch by 8 inch piece of watercolor paper.

While looking at this piece, I would like my viewers to envision the person they are most happiest with. I would ask them to think about their favorite time of day and food or drink. I want them to think about the things that make them happiest. While I was making this piece I was missing some of my most favorite people, food and weather. I made this piece for one of my bestfriends who lights up my life and decided to name this painting, "a taste of sunshine" after reminiscing over the days I'd spend like her in the photo.

This piece is a collage of the things I consider “self care,” which I have had lots of time for in quarantine. Some things I like to do as self care are watch my favorite movies, play video games with my sisters, and skincare. Because of the quarantine, I have been able to take focus off of school and de-stress for a little.

If my artwork was hanging in a gallery, I would want my viewers to know that this piece is dedicated to my grandpa. I wanted to paint him a moment we shared during my childhood; he would walk with me to our community’s pond and we would feed the ducks together. Little moments like these that I spent with him meant a lot to me and especially during times like this, I cherish these memories now more than ever. I wanted to capture this moment in a painting and create a serene feeling. I hope the viewers remember to tell their grandparents they love them and appreciate the little moments spent together.

For this piece, I based it off of the questions: "How does the school closure make you feel" and "What is something that you are doing differently." I wanted to capture the surreal and weird feeling I feel now that school is over and my everyday life is different. I also wanted to depict myself asleep because that is something I have been doing a lot lately as I can do my online schooling at any time of the day. If this was a piece in a gallery, I would want viewers to feel the tranquility and that many of us students feel right now when they see my expression, and I would want them to notice the dreaminess of the piece when they see outer space in the background and on the side. The outer space is meant to express the foreign lifestyle that we have all adopted in quarantine and how it is strange that we are inside nearly 24/7. I also tried to capture the solitude we all feel in quarantine through a depiction of the emptiness of outer space, but less in a sad way than in a peaceful way.

i've always liked the idea of object-heads but never liked the way i tried to implement them. i feel like this is a better way, at least for this prompt -- the idea of headlessness, having no sense of direction or sense at all other than touch. having lost the steady, predictable routine of school and schoolwork, that's where i think i am. every day is so quiet, with just me and my parents home, and the silence is stifling. it feels like it blocks out the senses -- as if i was missing my head, left to feel around in the dark with no other senses to guide me. but even then, i'm floating: there's nothing to hold on to. it's like a sensory deprivation tank made by the unsteady, overwhelming flow of time.

I would like the viewer to take away a feeling of resourcefulness and uneasiness. I tried to make the drawing with whatever I had lying around the house, being sharpies and a pencil, and I tried to model what my desk and computer screen typically look like. I tried to incorporate a feeling of clutter around my desk and on the screen, with multiple tabs being open with none pertaining to the other. No shadows are incorporated in the drawing to try and create a sense of the days blending together with a lacking hold on time and how much has passed. This is a portrayal of how every day life was for me, and most likely many others during quarantine, we all are doing whatever we can to keep ourselves busy and educated on whatever subjects and topics interest us most.

The vision for this artwork was to create something that me and a lifelong friend can both relate to. The inspiration comes from a location in the game Destiny 2 called the Dreaming City, which is a beautiful, grand, and fantasy-type city from another realm. This art in particular is of a watchtower, the landmark of celestial civilization that represents a society that became one with the stars. Whenever I paint from my imagination I always try to paint something "bigger than myself", as in something that will always awe me and others through its grandeur and stance, so to say. With this watchtower, I wanted to create something I will always look up to in order to represent better times ahead. When this art is complete, I will give it to a lifelong friend who can reminisce and relate to many concepts portrayed by the awoken watchtower. In general, this watchtower represents celestial beauty and the power of stepping outside one's comfort zone (personally).

Since the lockdown has started, I've been feeling pretty boxed in. In the past two weeks I have been trying to use my phone as my path 'out of the box', which really isn't healthy. Going forward, we all need to realize that technology won't be a good solution to our problems of boredom. Find an activity to do with your family! Go into your yard while you work on homework! We all need to get out of our boxes.

My artwork is a gift for an online friend I've known for a few years now. They are kind, friendly, and always up for a conversation. They're very busy most of the time, and I wanted to do something nice for them to return their kindness. We love creating stories and fantasies using characters we create, and they never fail to put a smile on my face on a bad day. To my best online friend, Fae.

This is a realistic color-pencil portrait. It is a drawing I created of my cousin, Cirrus. After her school closed, she joined my family for quarantine. I created this drawing because I wanted to show my appreciation for her as she has always supported me and have been my role model and artistic inspiration throughout the years. And I am very glad that she is here with me during quarantine so I can feel less lonely.

I decided to go with option one to draw something that shows what covid 19 is doing to our world. I drew an empty parking lot. We are all so used to our parking lots being filled and sometimes its hard to even find a parking space depending on where you are. But ever since we have been in quarantine cities have turned into ghost towns and its scary. Parking lots are usually empty so I drew that as my drawing

During the coronavirus pandemic, I've been thinking a lot about my friends and family, including my grandfather. In my art, I used observational drawing to draw my grandfather, who I've not seen in several years. I used a photograph of him and studied the image prior to drawing. I intended to capture the minor details in the photograph, as I believe so much can be found in simple moments. I used basic tools—pencil and standard paper—to mirror the simplicity of the moment.

I chose to draw my brother for this assignment. I feel that drawing him reflects the experience I have had during quarantine quite well. He and I are both unable to see our friends and thus we have been hanging out together a lot. I took a picture of him to draw, and he looked quite bored in the photo and even more so in the drawing, reflecting the overall mood of staying at home almost all the time. While drawing this, I was going to fully shade (and use smudging tools) the drawing but decided that I liked it a lot with just the sketchy line-work instead. I used guidelines, but when it came to his hair, I had to just try and draw the general shape and whatever lines of direction and flow I saw because it did not take a shape that was easy to draw (if I draw him again I may ask him to comb his hair first). The sweatshirt was also draw using very little guide line work because the shape was again really irregular, and I had to rely on just a lot of observation like we used for the shoe project.

Here is a mediocre painting made by a mediocre high schooler. In spite of its mediocrity, I'm proud of it. Why? I've never been artistically gifted, but since the country is in a current quarantine, I wanted to start a new hobby. Drawing and Design helped me realize that while I'm not very good at drawing, I still enjoy having an outlet for my imagination and my first painting was finished. So for the next few months I'll be applying what I learned from Drawing and Design to my painting; hopefully improving on the way.

I chose to draw a VW bus because my dad likes the shape of them. I drew this car based on pictures I took when I went to a car show a few years ago with my dad. It takes place on the Santa Monica Pier where the show took place. We both liked the color scheme of this car and I even have a model of this car with the same colors. I hope that every time my dad sees this picture I drew, he remembers the fun we had that day.

My drawing is based on the questions about self-care. I tried to incorporate into my drawing what I do in my daily life to implement self-care. These things include jogging, eating healthy, and balancing schoolwork and fun. I tried to make sure that each activity occupied the same amount of space on the paper because each of the four components are equally important in maintaining self-care. Doing work and learning, for example, not only promote productivity, but allows one to gain knowledge. Also, eating healthy and exercising boosts one's mental and physical health.

I wanted to express the loneliness I feel while sitting at home and the pure isolation. I went for a drive yesterday to clear my head and I saw little to no one on the streams so It really felt like I was alone. I took inspiration from an NF album called "perception". Its album cover is very similar to my art work however the meaning is slightly different. NF's album is about being lost in himself and feeling trapped within the idea of being famous and how despite his fame he is still alone with himself. Mine on the other hand is the struggle with social distancing and the idea that being physically alone but "with:" people though online means, isn't the same thing. I used only pencil for this drawing, I felt that the use of colors would take away from the image and its message of being trapped or confined.

During the past couple of weeks I've stayed home for the majority of the time due to the coronavirus. It is during this time that I realized how much of my social life was from school. Even though I can contact people online, I still feel very isolated, like I'm trapped in a cage in the middle of nowhere. This is where I got the idea for my drawing. Another aspect of staying at home is that I have not had much to do, which is why I depicted the room as very barren and empty.

The viewers should know that in this art work there is what would happen if you were to take self-care during this time or what would happen if you did not take self care. On the left side you can see she has a face mask and she looks like nothing is wrong with her. But on the right side you can see she has bags under her eyes and she looks tired and sick. Also on the left side there are flowers in the air but the wind but on the right side there are viruses in the wind to differentiate the different circumstances. Lastly you can tell that the hair on the right side is a lot messier to show that she’s sick but on the left side it is very neat and nice.

As they are looking at it, I hope the viewers can really feel the vibrancy through the image. The drawing was meant to be bright and colorful, to bring a smile to the recipient's face. I gave this drawing to a family member, because they love monarch butterflies. I also bought a beautiful monarch butterfly-patterned dress in New Orleans, which is also what inspired me to draw this. I had an enjoyable time creating this, because the contrasting oranges and black were pretty to work with.

This piece is an illustration of how boredom is a seed of creativity. At this point in time, many of us are stuck at home, perhaps with more free time than we have had in months. Despite possibly having grand plans as to how we plan to spend this time, when we are actually presented with the situation, boredom is the oftentimes first thing that sets in. What do I do? The answer always seems so obvious until we are presented with the question. But although the onset of boredom has no apparent end, it is boredom through which creativity may spring; with nothing more to stimulate the mind than imagination, possibilities can finally run free.

My art piece displays how I feel about the quarantine. I feel that even though we are unable to attend school, I can still learn and grow as the plant is even though it is under the glass dome. I also feel that before the quarantine I took school and seeing my friends for granted. However, I have adapted like the plant in the dome to the new online school and virtual group meeting with my friends. So I think that even though life is different I can still learn and grow as I did during school. I also believe we should try to take a positive perspective and learn and adapt to this new situation.

In this drawing, I wanted to show viewers that you can make so much out of little to nothing. No matter what little resources you have, it’s still possible for you to make something out of it. Whether or not you have crayons, colored pencils, or markers. In this case, I didn’t so I had to improvise. When looking at this drawing I want viewers to feel inspired by how you can make a relatively flat drawing look 3d. A feeling of abstractness when looking at this drawing. I didn’t want this to be a specific drawing but something where in your mind you define what it is.

Even during times of quarantine, music has been keeping me entertained, for many of my favorite artists have been working hard for their fans, thinking they must be feeling down through all the corona commotion. I am really thankful for them, and hope they stay safe and don't overwork themselves.

This is my drawing of a little boy under quarantine. His friend Tim tries to convince him to come play outside. But the little boy is wise, knowing the corona virus is a serious threat and decides to "save the human race" by staying at home. This also shows how easy it is for someone to protect people and stop the spread of the virus, for you can just lay on the couch.

I made this art of the beach. The reason I did this is because I love the beach and so does my dad and this is who I’m giving it to. Also because the ocean brings me peace and now is a time where peace is much needed. Another reason is because I really wish I could go to the beach right now. This just makes me think of the beach which is really nice.

Although it’s rushed I enjoy what I made quite a bit. I like that rough look that it was just sketched from what you think or feel it’s my favorite. This was supposed to be my living room from upstairs and it was actually pretty accurate one thing I thought was really funny is the pattern on the carpet... it’s completely different in real life and unlike what I thought it was.
