When making this piece I had a couple of my favorite songs in mind. Dephilleia Graying always manages to touch my heart when listening to it and Elevator compliments it very well. While I was coming up with the sketch I was creating a girl who had trouble looking herself in the mirror. The girl in my painting is lonely and only wants to surround herself with beautiful things (flowers). But as she was just starting to feel a part of, the flowers start to wilt away into being translucent, leaving her alone once again, to face herself.

The scene shows a couple at the path towards the beach. This was the scene depicted in my favorite song. I tried to blend colors for a sunrise and have everything dark except for the dawn that’s coming. I’ve always wanted to do a silhouette painting for this song.

This piece is based on the song "00:00" or "Zero O'Clock" by BTS. The overall message of the song is that even when you are feeling down or as though you are not moving forward, there is a fresh start, a new tomorrow, at zero o'clock. As midnight occurs during the night, there are shining stars scattered throughout the sky. The crossed halos above the clock represent the lyrics "Dizzy night, looking at the clock". This song has comforted me when I have been overwhelmed by life's daily challenges. I hope to convey this same feeling of peace and contentment with the knowledge of a new start through the color scheme of this piece and the lyrics below the clock.

I used only one color in this composition to convey the emotions illustrated in the song I chose, Mr Blue Sky. By only using blue depicted over a purely natural setting I can communicate both the pure joy of a clear sunny day, while also capturing the meloncholy feeling using blue. I used normal grey pencil to give the texture and detail to the rest of the picture without subtracting from the use of blue as the only color. By not including people in the composition I could make the picture seem more like a specific moment in time with an unchanging surroundings rather than having focus on a more dynamic subject of a person. As such I could communicate the theme of the song as blue skies, or good moments, don't last forever.

I would want views to know that the song this piece is inspired by is "Yellow" by coldplay. A line in this song that is repeated many times is, "and it was all yellow." i wanted to incorporate this into my piece by choosing all the things i could think of that were also all yellow. I outlined them all in black to add a contrast and definition to the soft yellow color.

This painting is based off of the song "Sunflower" by Rex Orange County, one of three songs named Sunflower in my big playlist. It's an interesting song in that it can be energizing or calming depending on how you personally interpret it. It has a low guitar backing and stays pretty low as a song, which I tried to represent as dense leaves and the water, but it has little trumpet pops that are sort of like the sunflowers popping out. The sunbeam is based around the last line of the chorus, "waiting for a minute til the sun seeps through my eyes".

For this artwork, I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone and draw a person holding a trident. I wanted to make a piece that would connect me back to some significant time in my life, and I chose the fall of my Juniors year. This time was filled with self confidence and good vibes being connected to the sea, so I wanted to represent that in some way. This man is supposed to be the "King of the Sea" and simply represents a strong personal connection to the ocean and what it holds. Although there are some flaws in my art, such as the head being a bit small, I consider this a massive learning curve for me and a confidence booster when it comes to drawing people in general.
Artist: Lars G. |
I really wanted to make the work as simple as possible because that's kind of how I feel about the song as a whole. There's not a lot of bloat to it, there it just rhythm and melody, no side music/fades that are faint to the ear. I also took a lot of inspiration from M83's music video in which the moon and it coming closer to earth/ it being nighttime was quite a big theme throughout their take so I decided to incorporate it into mine. Midnight city really just makes me feel serene and focused, thus the incorporation of a central visual theme with not many distractions on the side/not much meaning or depth to anything, everything is very surface level and easy to understand.

In this drawing I expressed my liking of Frank Oceans music very much. I want an viewers to understand how deep lyrics in a song can be. I want them to understand how much certain lyrics can affect a person, good or bad. I really like Frank Oceans music because it is so peaceful. I mostly like the vocals that come with his music.
Artist: Zami H. |
i thought of this song as a "farewell." starting with the lyrics "alone at the edge of a universe / humming a tune", dream sweet in sea major immediately elicits an image of the fantastical and otherworldly. combined with the nautical themes ("sea" major, "a siren sounds / like the goddess who promises endless apoligies of paradise", "our devotion's deepest ocean", "signed, yours truly, the whale"), i thought of a sailor who had reached the "end" - perhaps in some other reality. then i just liked the line "believe me darling / the stars were made for falling" so i added that imagery. listen to hawaii part ii (2012) by miracle musical y'all.

If my piece was hanging in a gallery, I would want people to notice to the lyrics, which are obvious indicators of the song's meaning. I'd also hope they'd pick up on the hearts which I implemented in order to further indicate the meaning of the song. I would hope that its viewers would recognize the symbolism of the hand pose that I intentionally made the most prominent and noticeable part of the piece, which means I love you in sign language. Any TWICE fan would recognize this hand symbol as the most significant and iconic part of this song's choreography. The hearts I painted on the index finger that cover the eyes are meant to be on place of the eyes; heart eyes are often express infatuation or romance. I tried to convey the theme of the song in this painting, and I hope I made it obvious through my romantic symbolism.
Artist: Lucas H. |
My artwork is inspired by the songs “It Runs Through Me” and “Disco Yes” by Tom Misch. It conveys the memories of when I first listened to the songs, memories of springtime in New York. The bright and cartoon-esque style captures the feeling of the song and how I felt during that trip. The bright yet cohesive color palette emphasizes the overall energy and rhythm of the songs.
Artist: Kirsten N. |
The song Villain focuses on LGBTQ rights, specifically trans rights. The blue "self" represents the male side of the narrator; the side they show in public and in front of "you," the person they like. The red "self" is their inner self, the female side of them, which they try to hide.
Artist: Annika O. |
As someone is lookin at my artwork I would want them to know that music can bring people together and it can help people and help them deal with what’s going on in their lives and when quarantine is over people are going to be partying and having fun and everything is going to be great.

For this assignment, I painted the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. My cousins live in San Francisco, and the Golden Gate Bridge makes me feel nostalgic. I wanted this painting to feel nostalgic for myself because I feel that it corresponds to the theme of the song. The official lyric video for the song features videos of different locations in grey scale with the lyrics in white. I wanted the painting to share features with the lyric video, so I decided to not use any color in the painting. I wrote "you always step to my girl" at the bottom of the piece because it's part of the hook of the song, and I think it's important to the song. The movement in the painting is the bridge, which shifts your vision throughout the piece. I created it with watercolor and ink pens on a 9 inch by 6.5 inch piece of watercolor paper.

I would want the viewer to know that this artwork is inspired by the chaotic and turbulent emotions I feel while listening to Beach-Life-in-Death. The hand holding the flashlight is a reference to the lyric "In the mall in the nighttime / You came back alone with the flashlight" because that lyric stands out in my head as a very clear image. The wave crashing over the car is meant to represent the loud, chaotic pace of some parts in the song, as well as the lyrics referencing impending danger such as "Last night I dreamed he was trying to kill you / I woke up and I was trying to kill you" and "The ocean washed over your grave" which both stand out to me as very prominently. The background of space, as well as the fact that the car is on a road to nowhere, are meant to represent some of the more surreal and fantastical lyrics of the song. Last, the quoted lyric "I couldn't tell you what it means / But it meant something to me" is one of my favorite lyrics because that's a feeling that often occurs to me, where a small or mundane thing feels very significant, and I really like the way that feeling is phrased here.

This Art piece represent the essence from the song "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" by Pink Floyd. While this scene is personal, I hope other viewers are able to feel the nostalgia and coziness expressed in this song. I hope viewers of both the song and art piece are able to recognize coziness and chaotic and nostalgic elements can coexist.

This drawing is a representation of everyone who listens to this song. Everyone who has this as one of their favorite songs feels the same way as the singer, lost and in the need for someone to be there for them, but hasn’t had the chance to meet them yet. The drawing also shows that when you feel alone, there are many that feel the same way as you.

This ink and watercolor piece is in ode to the song War Pigs by Black Sabbath. More specifically, it references the final lines of the song which mention Satan delivering justice to the war pigs. This song criticizes corrupt politicians who start wars and get countless people killed for the sake of prideful nationalism and gaining political power. In my piece the politicians (or war pigs) are shown sitting fearful and emaciated on the edges of a building around the devil who looks on smiling at the viewer and that which he has accomplished. The positioning of the pigs is meant to look similar to gargoyles and is mostly an aesthetic choice.
Artist: Gilmer W. |
What I'd want the people who view my art is to know the connection the art has with my song. I tried to include the element of art: space- in perspective form. This is shown in the silhouette of the person reaching out. I also wanted there to be contrast. I did this by having a colorful background and everything else in silhouette (the rest black). When you look at this, the person can be whoever is someone special in your life and the glitter and fireworks describe the feeling of the song.

The song I’ve been listening to this week is called “letters in December” by Powfu. Usually, my family would be skiing right now in the mountains. I remember listening to this song as we drove by the mountains heading to Lake Tahoe. I really loved the way the sunrise made the snowy mountains orange and pink with against the black trees and rock. My painting is inspired by the memory of this song and what we would be doing if there was no quarantine.

This drawing was based off the song "Fuzzybrain" by Dayglow. When I listened to the song, I got a sort of calm, lonely feeling, one that resonated with me most when I was alone sitting in my room, like I was when I first heard this song. The lyrics talk about feeling removed from yourself and just having this sort of "fuzzy" feeling in your mind. When I was visualizing this song, what came to mind was that feeling when you are all alone and you just have time to reflect on yourself and really think about your life. I drew a person sitting alone in the dark, since when I am really thinking an reflecting it tends to be really late at night or early in the morning. I felt that this song really reflected how I was feeling, especially since we have been in quarantine. We have more time to think about everything in our lives since we have more time, I tried to take that idea and put it onto paper.

The song idontwannabeyouanymore by Billie Eilish inspired this drawing. Specifically, the line "If teardrops could be bottled, there'd be swimming pools filled by models" influenced the main components of the piece. However, instead of teardrops and a swimming pool, I drew raindrops and an ocean. I did this to bring a different perspective than what was explicitly stated in the lyrics. I also used a blue colored pencil to add a subtle hue that complemented the song's mellow tone.
Artist: Niki H. |
As you can see in my artwork this song has many meaningful lyrics. In my artwork you can see how some of the lyrics shown have a deeper connection to how a person might feel. As you look at the artwork and the lyrics you will be reminded of a lot of hard times and the mistakes you've made. It makes you realize that it's not worth it to lose control in certain situations. It also shows that it's okay to let go of things and relax.

I based this piece on what I am reminded of when I listen to Kusanagi - Instrumental by ODESZA. The song is very organic, calm, and smooth. I listened to it a lot while I was in Hawaii last November, which grew an association. The specific scene takes place on the porch of the cabin, looking at some nearby palm trees. One certain palm tree was lit up by a dim green light, while the rest were mere silhouettes. I redrew this certain scene because I like the aesthetic of night and colored lights. The drawing itself was made with pencil and markers. This unfortunately did not allow for blending colors but did allow for color.

This drawing is my interpretation of what I hear when I listen to Dancing Queen. The drawing is of a girl who is a really good dancer and wears a crown to every competition. Because she has worn it to every competition she has earned the nickname of the Dancing Queen. When I was drawing her I was trying to add motion to her dance but I was not sure how to capture it. When I hear the song this is what I think of: a really good dancer with a crown with all the attention on her. I think I should have added stuff into the background but I didn’t want to take any attention off of her.

Artist Statement: A small, almost neglectable, figure sits quietly on the edge of an isolated island in the middle of darkness. Its only refuge is on fire, but the little figure is too busy thinking to even notice the ignited house. It just kept thinking. Its mind flew to the end of darkness, yet the darkness is starting to engulf it. As the lyrics of the song says, that little figure feel too deep into its thoughts and forgot how to live. What was it thinking? All we know is that It flourished the bewilderment of the answer and ridiculousness of the question.

This peace of art work is based off of a Beastie boys song called Paul revere. By the use of black on the characters it allows them to stand out better against the background of brighter colors. The picture took many days of creativity to allow it to perfectly show that it is based off of the song. Also the mixture of colors in the sun and in the sky gives a more realistic twist to the art. In the end this peace of work perfectly resembles the main theme of the song. The theme of the song is not actually about from the war but it is about somebody living in the wild west.

For my art piece I chose the song Like To Be You by Shawn Mendes, featuring Julia Michaels. My artwork conveys the two singers trying to understand each other though problems and disagreements. I want to show this by painting each hand almost touching but not quite, to convey that they love each other but still are trying to understand each other. I also added bubbles because in the song the beat sounds a bit like bubbles popping. I wanted to continue the blurry kind of bubbly look in the back round with water color and salt. I don't usually listen to music, but when I heard this song I really liked the meaning and lyrics. I like this song because of the meaning that I interpreted that there are some special people who will love you no matter the problem or disagreement.

Life can change in a split second. What is true now may not be so in the next instant. All of a sudden, things shift. Perhaps it is subtle, perhaps it is jarring; though, ultimately, we may simply be bystanders in a grand game controlled by Lady Luck. Perchance it is she who wields the sword of our lives, she who decides what shifts. And daily, she draws lines in our destinies, guiding us along our uncertain, ever-changing paths.

My drawing is based off the song Hips Don't Lie by Shakira. It is Shakira's dress, on a football, with a soccer ball on that. Shakira's dress is what she was wearing in the music video, and it shows that she loves dancing. It also has the chorus lyrics on the dress as the wavy lines. It is on a football, because she played the song at the last Super Bowl halftime show. There is a soccer ball, because it reminds me of soccer, since my coach loves to play it at practice, so it is always in my head.

Since my favorite song is Nice Colors, I have imagined the scene of that song. This drawing is about my imagination and feelings about this song. About how this song would appears to people as a landscape. In my imagination, this song makes me feel like a farm. There is green grassland, couple cows, a simple farmer house and some trees and birds. All these nature things makes me relate to this song. I want viewers to know that this song makes a calm, relax vibe and based on my drawing, they should know that this landscape is pretty chill.

My artwork is based on a song called "Know your worth" by Khalid. I first heard this song when I was in my room watching the sunset. I drew a girl to show who the singer was talking about. My favorite line in the song is " You don't know your worth" so I choose to draw a balance scale to show worth. I specifically drew it in the girls head to show what she knew and what she didn't.
Artist: Mya H. |
In this picture I drew several pictures of scenes that were put into my head while listening to this song. Also I included some verses from the songs that I felt were the most descriptive. It took time to really think about the pictures because this song is semi descriptive. Madison beer is a great singer songwriter and I really enjoyed listening to her songs. And at such a young age she is so successful.
Artist: Mia L. |
I chose the happy birthday song mainly because it is my favorite song that isn’t a rap song. This song brings joy to my heart because it reminds me of all the happy family memories we have when me and my brothers celebrate. This shows family love coming together and other things like presents and fun and joking around. This picture is for my little brother who just turned 13 and didn’t have a very big birthday due to corona virus. It is also kind of for me who celebrated my birthday March 30th.
Artist: Andrew S. |
This piece was inspired by the song "Do It Again" by Steely Dan. The song is about how unfortunate hardships are going to happen to everyone, but we just have to move on and keep going. I drew a ball rolling past a warzone to illustrate this idea. This also connects to the current situation with the coronavirus and that whatever happens, we have to keep moving. I tried to use bright, vivid colors because the song was very energetic and had a moderate pace.
Artist: Alex T. |
Truthfully it didn't come out the way I wanted. The helmet on the gun in the foreground looked fine and the sky in the background worked but I wanted to add something that would signify the price paid by those during WW1 just as the song did with its steady, slow beats. I feel like I should've added more helmets sat atop weapons, which signifies a fallen soldier, to make it appear as if they were trailing off into the distance. The rifle's would signify the loss and the multi-layered background as one continuous road led out would've given my work a stronger striking image. But with the way it is I feel like I got the message across and the question at the top of the piece, "What is the price of a mile?" Gives context to it. I have one major gripe with the way I colored in the piece, my black colored pencil was too small to fill in the black foreground so I decided to use a sharpie but the effect makes the receiver of the gun appear like its floating and I didn't really like that part about it.
Artist: Ben T. |
I chose option 2 for assignment number 3. When working on this, I wanted to illustrate the situation we're all in now. We are all quarantined home (which is resembled by the wall) but you can still see and hear calming noises which is what we all need now even being behind this "wall". I didn't exactly add music to this artwork but I was thinking that nature's sound is the best music to mankind. I drew a picture of a bird chirping and a stream to demonstrate some of nature's noises. I want my viewers to know that nature's music is the most calming remedy there is to exist on this world. To add, a theme I used was repetition/patterns for the repeating brick pattern on the wall as well as the grass on the mountains and vines climbing on the wall.

My artwork takes place in the heart of New York city. The news stand tells a story of a person who is sincere and committed to making the world a better place. This drawing represents the song Secrets by OneRepublic by showing that you don’t have to tell lies and hide who you really are. The person described in the magazines is tired of others lying to become successful. He instead creates an honest company based on his ideas that he hopes can change the world. I also hope that in the future my ideas and thoughts will show who I am.
Artist: Darius Y. |
My favorite song is Melting Ice by Lights&Motion. Although this song, unlike most popular songs nowadays, does not have any lyrics, but it is peaceful and calming. With no lyrics, this song gives me a lot of creative space. I visualize this song to be taking place in a forest, and after winter but right before spring. The melody gives me a sense of hope, of life, and of nature.
Artist: Angela Z |
In a literal sense, the drawing shows a boy looking up to the sky, seeing the stars and the northern lights. However, I also wanted to depict how the song, Stargazing, shows someone moving on from something in their life. Similarly, the boy shows that he can overcome things as well. He has climbed these huge mountains to see the stars. I used color in the sky to demonstrate how it is bright and hopeful.
Artist: Evan Z. |
In this assignment we had to choose a song and draw basically how we feel or what this song makes of think of. My song was Never by Mag.lo. It’s a song that expresses a lot of different emotions in me at one time. How this song is sung, it gives me the feeling of tiredness yet attentiveness to ones emotions. I drew this to capitalize on the feeling the chorus gives me.
Artist: Paisley J. |
If my artwork was hanging in a gallery, I would want my viewers to know that it is based off the song “Whalien 52” by BTS. It is about a whale that is unable to communicate with any other whale because of its unusual high frequency pitch, and is therefore nicknamed the loneliest whale in the world. The song describes the struggles of feeling isolated, but also learning to embrace loneliness. The person staring at this art in the museum wall resonates with the whale and its loneliness. I illustrated the setting in an art museum because listening to this song makes me feel very serene, similar to how one feels when observing art at a museum. I used a lot of blues because blue evokes a feeling of melancholy yet also peacefulness, which is portrayed in “Whalien 52.”
Artist: Sarah L. |
My painting represents the song Fast Talk by Houses. This song makes me feel like this painting. It reminds me of summer and I feel very calm and happy when I hear it. I painted the feeling I get when I listen to this song as well as the literal lyric: “me and my friends cruising down west end street.” I imagine myself in a car with the windows down driving to the beach.
Artist: Maggie W. |
My drawing takes heavy inspiration from the literal meaning of “Homecoming” by Kanye West and Chris Martin. It’s a song about remembering your origins and coming back to that place, and I can relate to this a lot. I included imagery of Manhattan as it was the place that I grew up in and around. For me, I consider New York my home. I also put pictures of iconic New York buildings along the bottom against the background of the subway map. I have a personal connection with a lot of places in the city and these pictures bring back memories for me. The buildings I included are just some of those places.
Artist: Liam R. |
My art is about the song A BOY IS A GUN* by Tyler the Creator. This song is in his album Igor which is mainly about loving someone who doesn't love him back. This song conveyed a message of being hurt and overthinking. I created a drawing of a girl who is overthinking. At the top of the piece I wrote lyrics from the song.
Artist: Anonymous |
Since the message of the song was to hold on through change, I took that and ran with it. Each scene represents change of some kind. (I did include tomatoes in the garden line.) The idea of hard change is very relevant right now, with the whole world constantly adapting to the coronavirus protocol. The biggest challenge with this project was putting that feeling of change into an image, hopefully without being to cliche.

This was actually really satisfying to complete cause it took a minute and it filled the whole page with color. Anyways this is exactly what happened to like my whole body while I was hearing this song watching the skate video with it. This was mainly during a certain part in the video towards the end, I’m gonna explain this in slate terms so sorry if you don’t understand. Anyways, the music was climaxing and reaching an epic point when the skater did the ender in the part which was a blunt kickflip on a roof and then he rode off the roof switch and right when he started rolling off the roof the song had a quiet part and when he landed it just exploded again and those pauses like that in the music just make it sound absolutely epic. The whole song was just saturated with emotion and the fact that there was a saxophone helped a lot too just absolutely captivating made my day.

When seeing this artwork i hope that people would find it cute and happy. the artwork is from a game called animal crossing, the game is able to make a lot of people happy during quarantine and for me this song helps make alot of people smile since its so sweet and calming. the artwork is of a character named isabelle, her job is to make you happy and alert about how to make your adorable island look even cuter.
