I painted the duck toothbrush holder that I have had in my bathroom for as long as I can remember. I was struggling to think of something to paint so I just wandered around the house a bit. Eventually I came across the duck! It was super fun to paint and is something I see/use every day. I love the happy colors :)

If my art was hanging in a gallery, I would want my viewers to know is focused on an object that provides me with comfort. I drew my Nintendo Switch because it allows me to connect with friends and family during these times of social distancing. I drew two characters on the Nintendo Switch screen representing me and my friend playing online together. Even though we cannot be together physically, it comforts me to be able to be with them virtually. I wanted to draw both realistically and cartoon-y in this piece to add a sense of playfulness that I feel when I am using Nintendo Switch online with friends.

If my artwork were hanging in a gallery, I would want people to know that all these objects are part of my daily routine. My house gives me shelter. In addition, I use a running watch and running shoes while I run. My dog, Rocky provides comfort. I also like to walk Rocky. Lastly, I play the piano to enrich myself. It is important to have a daily routine.

My work was inspired by a mix between comfort and safety. My family is really serious about taking safety measures, so I’m cleaning and social distancing a lot. I’m also dressed in really comfortable clothing to combat the stress of everything else. I originally started with the blanket because it’s my favorite item, but then I added more quarantine related items. I’m happy with how my work turned out because it’s funny but also sort of realistic.

This is a study sketch I did in my own back yard. I sat down on a bench near the trees and faced the gate. I noticed how beautiful the architecture and the plants looked together, so I decided to practice my sketching for this assignment. I hadn't sketched real life subjects in a while, so it was difficult at first. However, I liked how it turned out and it is one of my favorite sketches.

This masterful art piece was inspired by the hand sanitizer I use every day when I go out. The heart coming out of the bottle is supposed to represent the love and safety that is provides me. I think hand sanitizer is a big symbol for the current time right now. I hope that everyone has access to hand sanitizer and other cleaning products. My art shall inspire millions with the detail and depth the image portrays.

A simple cartoon-like representation of my phone and the music I listen to. Music is my lifeline, and therefore links my phone directly to it because of how easy and common it is to carry around. I like listening to calm and relaxing songs that make me think of peaceful valleys and hills. That's just who I am.

In my still life drawing I included 4 major subjects, each one of which holds a level of significance to my life during quarantine. I included a paper crane in order to represent how relaxed I have been during quarantine since teachers have lightened the homework load. This relaxation time is important to me because it allows me to care for myself. The other three objects in the still life (mason jar, a metallic bowl, and toothpaste) are just some other items that I use every day. These represent the idea that I have been getting into a certain routine during quarantine and have been getting used to the situation.

If my art was in an art gallery, I'd like people to experience the calm feeling I feel from my switch after a super long day of work. I'd like them to also feel the happiness I feel from my favorite game, Animal Crossing. This game never fails to calm me down and make me happy at the same time. During quarantine, things have been especially rough for me, so I hope this drawing shows the bit of happiness I get to experience when I play this game. I'd also like the viewer to remember their favorite game from when they were a child so they can connect to my happiness as well.

I chose my Stylus. My stylus brings me comfort and outlets to be creative. It reminds me of the things I can create and encourages me to do things like digital art. I always have it on me for creative inspiration and, since it’s also a pen, to write down those ideas. It might be seen as a cheap broken stylus but it illiterates my creative ideas.

For my “everyday object”, I chose hand sanitizer. During Quarantine I have used hand sanitizer probably every day. I take it when I go out to pick up food, go on a hike, or walk. It is a very relevant object to what’s happening during this time in our world. I chose to draw it in pencil to practice shading and values. The shadow of the bottle is the darkest value and the clear bottle itself is the lightest value. I used different values to show the different parts of the bottle, ex: the label, the cap, and the magnified label on the back of the bottle.

I chose to do my observational drawings of a fork and a hairbrush. I felt they would be more interesting and complex to draw and shade than the other objects on my list. Additionally, I use both of them frequently during this period of time at home. I have been overdue for a haircut since before quarantine, and my hair is extremely long. I spend a lot of time each day with my brush trying to get all of the knots out of my hair! Additionally, I have been enjoying lots of delicious food with my fork, because it’s so readily available (yikes). I chose to draw colorful dots behind my observational drawings to add color and detail to the piece.

I drew a pile of books with my headphones on the side. I drew this because reading and music are two of my favorite things. Especially when I do them together. The pile of books is actually my reading list, so the drawing is kinda my way of reminding me to read them. I also drew a fantasy-like ocean with a sunset. The unrealistic colors signify the different worlds that can be reached through reading and listening to music. That's why I love reading so much, I can get lost in a story, and imagine I'm not in quarantine or at my house. Instead I'm in Ancient Greece, or Hogwarts, or anywhere.

In this piece I combined tin foil, book pages, paper, painting, and drawing to create a mixed media style chair. An empty chair is an invitation to stop, sit down, and relax. This has been my experience with quarantine, so that is why I decided to create a chair. For the realistic chair, I used different drawing strategies to turn the colors into values and I tried to look closely at all the details. Although many people are also having a quiet quarantine experience, there are people that are very stressed or busy during this time. To recognize that, I created a layered, chaotic background and I incorporated imperfect blind contour drawings.

I drew my phone because it is something I use everyday. I like communicating with my fiends and family and my phone allows me to do that. Also there is plenty of entertainment on it which keeps me occupied. It also provides me with important information about whats going on in the world so I think its important.

I chose option #1. Maybe the viewers of my drawing will might question me, "why did you choose mouse?". I don't know why I chose this object to draw but I had hard time drawing the mouse. I think more black the object is, more harder is to show the value of the object. I should have chosen some other objects...... (^오^)

During these times, technology is my connection to the outside world. I take classes, receive notifications, communicate with friends, and watch entertainment on my laptop and phone. I drew contour line drawings of each and outlined them in pen. I then cut each of the drawings out and glued them onto a black piece of construction paper, which is unexpected. This emphasizes the individual drawings by creating contrast between them and the dark background. We are all still fortunate enough to be able to continue with our daily lives online.

The two observational drawings are of objects I see/use everyday; my earbuds and a dog collar. Both music and pets are important to me, and these objects remind me of that. I used color on the “inside” of both objects that show the texture of the object. For the earbuds, the color scheme showed a sort of liquid texture, spilling out the sides, while the collar was made to look like a light/reflection. Both drawings were exaggerated to show the importance of each.

To start my artist statement, I chose option 1 and made 3 blind contour drawings and 1 final drawing. I decided to be creative and have a cool image on my phone and ad some color. I drew my iPhone 11 which I use everyday. I drew the front with the screen on. The image is of a Clone Trooper helmet from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The show has been going on since 2007 and ends next week. So in honor of that, I had put the poster of a helmet as my screen saver until the show ends.

One of the two drawings on this paper is a hand holding a phone, on that phone there is a game playing. This is my hand and that's my phone. In these days, playing video games with my friends is one of my most favorite thing to do when I am in relaxing time. Playing this game just make me forget about everything and just focus on playing this. It is a really interesting video games, basically is League of Legends but in Chinese version. Another drawing is a girl brushing her teeth. This drawing includes at my everyday life because brush my teeth is one of the daily routine I do. I drew those 2 things because these are my answers to that question and I think it is very important things to do everyday. I includes shading, and some techniques to make my drawing look more reality or standing out; rather than just a piece of drawing "rely" on white paper. This is my whole drawing, nothing more nothing less, very reality to my life.

The objects that I drew where just a couple things that give me reassurance, or relief and also gives me comfort. I drew a pair of headphones because my headphones allow me to listen to music while I work on my homework. Listening to music let’s me focus on what I need to do supplying me with comfort. A pencil lets me write all the things I need to write down like homework, or things that I need to get done. Lastly I drew a mug because every morning I like to have a warm cup of tea to start my day. Drinking tea supplies me with comfort and relief.

If my artwork was hanging in a gallery, I would like my viewers to know that I use electronic devices in my daily routines. For example, I use my phone to stay in touch with friends, I use my computer for homework, I use my earbuds to listen to music, and I use my drawing tablet and pen to draw digitally on my computer. In addition, the reason I outlined my drawings with a highlighter is because these two electronics are underrated, yet they are a great help to me while in self quarantine. When I'm bored, I listen to songs that I enjoy listening to while relaxing. Furthermore, after finishing my homework, I like to practice drawing digitally using my drawing tablet and pen. I feel like I take these two items for granted even though sometimes I may not realize it.

I chose option 1 for this project. I chose to do it on my headphones. I spend a lot of time using them. I also chose to draw my headphones because the other things I listed were all too large to do blind contour drawings on. What I did as something creative/unexpected was draw multicolored patterns on it. I did this because I thought just a plain black and white drawing is bland. I decided to add color instead of just pattern to make it stand out even more.

When someone is looking at these drawings I want them to think and wonder about what I do with these specific items. I want them to wonder what games I play. What console I play on. I want them to think about if they can relate with what I do. I want them to really just think about me and what I possibly do on my free time during this dark and frightening time.
