This piece portrays the theme of mixed feelings in times of uncertainty and change. On a large 24x18 inch piece of paper, I used acrylic paint to create a semi abstract self portrait, and then I used sharpies to draw the zentangle designs in the background. The concept of mixed feelings is represented by the many different colors in the painting and the many different designs in the zentangle. As life is changing, I’m happy with some changes and sad about others. I’ve also been worried, confused, mad, excited, and more, which is why I wanted to capture the idea of mixed feelings in my art. The current situation is not all good or all bad; it sparks many different emotions for people.

I chose option #1 for my artwork. When people see my drawing, they will realize how much I spent time to create this artwork. Since I don't usually make my artwork this detailed, you can tell how tedious this work was. I wish for all people who are practicing "social distancing" to cheer up when they see my drawing. My excessively detailed drawing will remind people that not only themselves are bored in this situation.

During my individual moments of reflection during this sudden break from school, I often thought of images I saw in my increased hours of social media. To simply put it, the posts reflected perfection and happiness. It is a common mindset that perfection brings happiness, and such thinkers are what make up the majority of society, myself included. And yet, as I took time to wonder the significance behind my artwork for this assignment, different perspectives began to pop in my head. Zentangle brought an unfamiliar freedom in which instead of perfection being the goal, themes of wild, bizarre, and unique became cherished. In my artwork, I wanted to send the message that life's moments are not simply divided into white or black, perfect or not perfect, but there are always splashes of color bringing happiness to our everyday lives.

In response to the second prompt (creating a drawing based on the themes listed in assignment#1), I chose to draw a scene of my mom giving me and my cousin a few slices of a cake she just baked. Both my mom and my cousin is someone that I stayed in connection with and am very thankful for, especially during quarantine. I incorporated zentangles into the drawing by cutting the three figures and the cake into basic geometric shapes and filling them in with zentangle patterns depending on the texture of the original object. The hair and the cake was drawn in pen and with more complicated patterns as their color was relatively darker compare to the clothing and the arms, which are drawn in pencil. I also included a small sketch of the same scene on the side.

This zentangle artwork is a very creative piece using very bland colors of black and white. Each pattern took a lot of time and thought to make each peace of art very creative. Each part of the zentangle was well planned and took a lot of effort. The black and white also shows equality in art work. The background helps add to the piece and creates a sense of texture. Finally the by the uses of the shapes and symbols running of the side of the paper allows the viewer to use there imagination to think about what the rest of the symbols and shapes look like.

The digital art piece I made was made in a variety of blues, as that felt like my mood while in quarantine; calm, peaceful, but a little sad. I miss seeing my friends, as well as going to school. One of the ways I coped is through drawing, and the zentangle was a good way to express everything. I also enjoyed listening to music. While I was drawing the zentangle I was listening to music, occasionally singing along and simply having fun. The art piece became really "glowy" and gave an overall light and peaceful look. I really enjoyed making this digital art.

In this piece, I created my Zentangle garden using an India Ink dip pen, and added the surrounding color with water color pencils. I chose to fill a garden with Zentangle because nature seems very serene, but is quite intricate when viewed closely. I made my Zentangle design more of a background, rather than dividing one subject into many sections. I did this in order to create a more complex and visually satisfying piece. With the Zentangle design being black and white, I felt it was really important to use bright colors in order to make the Zentangle pop. The color radiates from the sun, slowly transitioning from bright and yellow to orange to pink and red, mimicking the true gradient nature of sunlight using much more dramatic colors.

When people look at my artwork, I would want the viewers to see, or know, that I am a creative person. I've had experience with just drawing in my free time too so drawing things is nothing new to me. In my drawings there's some things that relate to me. For example, in the drawing it displays a chunk of meat, shrimp, a hamburger, a snake, and a popsicle. All of these items, and more on the drawing, are things that I like. I first sketched out my drawing with an ordinary pencil and then I outlined it with some Pigma pens (black ink pens).

This Zentangle is about being unique and different. There are many crazy weird lines, and shapes that make it unique. This relates to the time were in right now because it is crazy, unreal and this Zentangle represents all the ups and downs one may encounter. There is also repetition, busy space and open space which gives it variety.

The way I used my own unique ideas in my work is finding a pattern and making it different. The new techniques that I learned was shading better and making sharper shapes. The artwork is intended to say that there are negative spaces in everything. The thing I tried that I wasn't sure about with this artwork is doing bigger shapes. I. I responded to challenges by drawing them more carefully until I was confident enough to draw them more professionally. I stepped back and analyzed every time I finished an area. I found inspiration from other artists when I was looking for other ideas.

This piece is a combination on the pattern elements and larger, more prominent shapes as well. I chose to not include color in this drawing because when I was doing the practice, one of my favorite elements to use was contrast, I thought that the contrast between the black and white makes the patterns more obvious. I wanted to bring more attention to the line and shading as opposed to distracting from it with any excess color or extra elements. The zentangle actually took a lot more time than I thought it would, as the marker I had was pretty thin and there was a lot of black space to fill in in many of my patterned sections. One of my favorite elements of creating this piece was the fact that I was able to focus really well on completing the project especially with music. I typically struggle to maintain focus for long and I have to get up and do something else for a time. However, this style combined with listening to music allowed for really focused work, and my ability to complete this project in a few hours really added to my enjoyment of this project.

My zentangle was made using a black marker and white paper. I first drew a looped line to divide the paper and then continued to draw an array of shapes including squares and triangles. I started working on it when it was assigned and ending up really enjoying the patterns and visuals of each individual pattern. Whenever I messed up, I just created another pattern instead of starting over, which comes in handy considering I have a tendency to mess up whatever I had in mind for a particular piece. This was so enjoyable for me, that I might go back and try to implement color or paint into my drawing to make it unique and colorful.

Zentangle was a way to create designs through drawing various patterns and shapes. It was almost therapeutic and made me feel relaxed and focused. The black pen on white paper makes the patterns really stand out from the plain white background. It is a very specific way of drawing images.

These drawings were very relaxing and calming to work on. Something as simple as shapes was fun to draw. Although it is an assignment and a drawing, it is more than that. It is a reflection of taking time for myself. I hope the viewer sees my art and is inspired to try Zentangle. I really enjoyed it because it forced me to get off my screen and just draw; draw something simple that I could develop into a cohesive drawing. For a second I was so concentrated and focused, I forgot all my worries. It was a great assignment.

What I'd want my viewers to know about my artwork is it is the type of zentangle going off of shapes. I started with a couple of triangles, circles and a hexagon. Then, I filled them in with various patterns and other shapes. I wanted there to be a lot of intricacy so you don't get bored looking at it. I also aimed at including some contrasting color, lines, and balance (radiating balance).

This piece was made using a plate as a reference, which was drawn in different perspectives. On the left, the plate was drawn several times with the flat side facing up. On the right, the side of the plate was drawn. The left side of the piece focuses more on each individual zentangle design, as each circle is outlined in some way. While the right side is more of a compilation of designs and one whole design.

Zentangle is a form of art that is composed of patterns and is relaxing to the viewer. During this time, it is important for all of us to relax and focus on our health. I used a thin and thick pen to create this drawing. None of it was planned, but rather I used whatever shapes and lines came to my mind at the moment. For any mistakes that I made, I just went with the flow and added more shapes or lines to make them blend in.

If my art was hanging in a gallery, I would want viewers to know that its a zentangle of a humpback whale. I choose to make a zentangle of a whale because I have always been interested in ocean animals like whales. The tail fluke of it made me think of some cool designs. That is why I choose the whale, its huge body and decorative fins would make for a good zentangle. I also want the person to know I worked really hard on this.

In the top left corner of my drawing, I did some triangles facing different direction; some of the triangles are filled in with color black. There is many repetition of triangles and pattern with in. On the top right corner there is a run off edge circle. I have colored this circle with black in some pattern which makes it more complex than a normal run off edge circle. In the middle of my drawing, I drew a pattern similar to check board. It's difference than a check board pattern is that my pattern is not as regulated by square shape as normal check board pattern, it is more special and different. Last but not least, is the drawing on down left corner. I drew some waves with rectangles filled in black. Those wave pattern are over lapping with my "check board " pattern. This is my Zentangle drawing, it contains repetition, and run off edge, and overlap.

I would like my viewers to know about my art piece that it is based off of falling trees. Though it is not yet fall, I wanted to draw something that would relate to the current situation of COVID-19. The falling leaves symbolizes the days quickly passing by while stuck in quarantine. With a month in quarantine and school closed, the days seem to go by in an instant. I find myself doing the same things over and over again: eat, sleep, homework, basketball. Even though quarantine may be a bore, it is important to stay healthy by washing hands with soap and other necessary deeds.

For my artwork I want people to be confused. I want them to not know what I was doing. Or what my intentions were for this. Doing the Zentangle style of artwork makes you erase no mistakes so even if they were to try and see what you were doing it’s be hard to see what they we’re going for. Since you can’t see the difference between mistake and correction.

When viewers see my drawing, I would want them to know that it is possible to create art out of whatever you have at home. Whether it is a full art set or just the back of an old homework assignment and a pen, everyone can still find a way to create art with everyday items. When I drew this, I didn't really have a plan in mind, I just put my pen to paper, and ended up creating something that I really like. The drawing helps tap into a side of me that has taken more creative risks lately, because of this new free time given to me in self isolation.
