My drawing could be a combination of option 1 and option 2. Usually during this time of the year, wild flowers are blooming everywhere. Unfortunate for us, we can only stay at home and find things to do. With a little zentangle, our minds can be more peaceful and relaxed. Zentangle itself is a repetition of shapes and lines, so it makes the artwork more complex. Large but simple outlines for the flower petals makes the artwork seem not so complicated. A combination of both negative space and zentangle is the idealized drawing for me.

When looking at my artwork, I want people to mainly focus on each individual pattern at a time. I want them to observe the pattern and the usage of lines in my drawing. I also want my viewers to know that patterns/zentangles are something that is very stress relieving as well as simple. I also want them to notice the usage of layering in my artwork. Lastly, I want them to see the artwork as a whole and see how everything comes together.

In this image you can see 12 boxes that have circles and different shapes inside of the circles. I got an inspiration from one of the planets in Star Wars. It has a similar shape meaning in the planet like shape with a circle inside. Looking at this you should get a sense of relaxation as well as when I did it myself. I worked very hard and tried my best to get each one exactly the same, but they aren’t perfect.

I selected option #1 for the zentangle. In the art there is a lot of small detail. It took time and was very tedious but in the end it was worth the hard work. Doing artwork such as this is such a good way to relieve stress and keep occupied while being in containment. I hope this drawing brings smiles to people during quarantine.

It can be difficult to express a particular meaning through patterns, for each pattern may mean something different for someone else. In this piece I wished to express that in a sense--we are all different. Yet despite our differences, society works together, much like pieces in a jigsaw, or in this case, pieces in a zentangle. Behind every person who comes together to help society function, there is a story; no one's story is exactly the same, even if situations are similar. In times of tribulation such as these, we are still moving forward as a society, coming together in spirit, and working for a better tomorrow.

This is a piece about perseverance. While drawing patterns was relaxing at first, I soon began to overthink new ideas as I went along. I realize now that I shouldn’t have worried. When I looked over the piece as a wholesome , the combination and varieties of color and patterns shocked me. I’m glad I didn’t succumb to my inner critic.

My work was made after spring break and during that break I purchased a game called Witcher 3. This game was my escapism, my calming activity that I did during then. The vast and beautiful environments, the combat which flowed like a choreographed dance, and the ambient sounds heard while playing all added to this feeling of peacefulness. This is what I felt while creating this. It’s also why the stylized wolf head is the center piece of it. In the game you play as a Witcher, the male counterpart to a witch and you wear a medallion on your neck made of silver in the shape of a wolf head and has been a symbol for the games ever since it’s creation. For the actual zentangle part of the piece I decided to look around my desk and used characters from both fictional and real languages to create the patterns used.

My drawing is based on one of questions from Assignment 1 (the one about something that's challenging right now). For me, not being able to play tennis is pretty hard. I decided to draw my instructor and I playing tennis. I also incorporated zentangle into my drawing by creating different designs for the court and using a checkered pattern for the net. I really enjoyed creating this art piece because I got to draw my favorite sport, and I was able to be creative with the designs.

If my artwork was hanging in a museum or gallery I would want the spectators to see that it is much more than random shapes. I started this project out thinking that I wanted to create a cohesive unit using individual interesting shapes. In this process I started to look at the art as a whole and my new shapes and designs were used to tell a story about a nice garden party. This idea fully changed the way I perceived the traits of the shapes causing me to no longer think about the shapes as individuals but as contributions to an idea. Once this happened it was easy and I hope my audience can go from logical recognition to perception of a whole.

My art piece displays my free creativity without bounds of too much instruction. In this piece I let my mind wander and draw random patterns that I wanted to try or ones that just popped into my mind. This free flowing atmosphere in my zentangle really let me just let go and try new patterns that I would normally not try. I also tried to really ignore my mistakes and move on throughout the drawing. This is because when I draw I often want to go back and erase my mistakes. I think this was a great experience to really let my creativity flow even in the stress of quarantine. I also tried to pay attention to the negative and positive space in the drawing, between the black and white. I experimented a little bit with my patterns with depth and space in my zentangle, which I really enjoyed doing. Through this piece I just want viewers to realize the value of learning and moving on from mistakes, like in zentangle and just go with the flow.

There are lots of different shapes in this drawing. The middle is an octagon, which has three lines moving out of it. There are other shapes such as triangles and circles. There are also different types of shading in the shapes. Some have different shapes in shapes, and others just have an outline around a shaded shape.

My Zentangle is just a couple designs that make me feel happy. During hard times like this, it’s is important to feel stress free and be as happy as you can be. My artwork has lots of squares and circles in it. This is because a square has four equal sides and a circle has no sides but the distance from the center to the outside is the same all round. I want everyone to feel equally happy when looking at my artwork. I want them to smile and feel joy inside.

As people view my work, I want them to know that I enjoyed making this. It was pretty relaxing to make. The patterns were very fun to come up with. Doing the zentangle also, surprisingly, helped me destress a little from the current situation. All the patterns took a bit longer to make than I had expected, but I believe they turned out good nonetheless.

This picture is a decent birds eye view of my favorite campground called Jed Smith Redwood State park. This picture shows the iconic Smith River flowing through the center with its foot bridge. It also shows a pair of trail options on the opposite side of the bank. There are many campsites and by far the best one is campsite 60 which i have stayed at the last 2 summers. My family always goes around the beginning of august and we camp for about 2 weeks with our cousins. We go there every year and have loads of fun and it’s definitely recommended to visit there.

This is a zentangle, which is a picture containing many shapes, with a different pattern in each of them. It is drawn completely in pen, so everything is final. Each pattern is created using four or five steps that cause the pattern to look complex, even though each step consists of simple shapes and lines.

For my Zentagle, I chose option 1. This means that I began by drawing some shapes. After drawing the initial shapes, I filled them with random patterns. To create these patterns, I usually starting with something simple, such as stripes, dots, or wavy lines. Afterwards, I would fill in the white space with another kind of pattern, and eventually fill in all the shapes. Then I split the leftover background into more shapes to fill in, until I finished the entire drawing.

When people look at this piece I want them to feel relaxed and at ease. Like their stress is going away the longer they stare at the artwork. I want them for feel calm and happy while they stare at this art piece. No matter what is going on in other places this art piece would be there to calm their nerves.

In my art, I used the zentangle method to achieve a repetitive yet spontaneous design. Zentangle is a meditative form of drawing, which made it easy for me to unwind while creating art. Typically when I draw, I use a temporary tool such a pencil, so that I can erase my mistakes. However, when using the zentangle method, spontaneity is preferred over perfectionism. For that reason, I used a pen and forwent any prior planning. Using a pen also forced me to incorporate my mistakes into each pattern. Sometimes I completely changed a zentangle pattern because of a mistake.

I drew 11 different zentangles all together in this. Even though there are only 8 shapes, I tried to incorporate more patterns in the larger triangle to make it more interesting. I didn’t think about what I was going to draw I just saw where my mind would take me. As I would be drawing sometimes I would mess up what I was going for and i would get frustrated but then I figured out some way to fix it and make it different than it was before. My favorite shape I did is probably the small rectangle coming off the page with the eyes because it’s different since most of the other ones only have shapes and lines.

I’m imagining my drawing is hanging up in an art gallery. I want people to know that even if you are different, you can get a long. Each part of the drawing is different, but it still works together. So just because you have differences doesn’t mean you can’t get along. Opposites can attract to

The piece of art that I created was a fusion of a Zentangle with a landscape. I used simple shapes to create an abstract landscape of a beach. The beach I imagined while drawing this is Poipu in Kauai, HI. I put heavy emphasis on the sun while drawing by exaggerating its size and generally using more ink on it. The other focus is the palm tree in the center, which conveys the tropical theme I am conveying.

My artwork is inspired by Takashi Murakami, who is a Japanese artist who’s been featured by Kanye West, Louis Vuitton, Mentos, Supreme, and many other conventional brands. His art is known to be very psychedelic, so I wanted to incorporate that into my piece. At the same time, I also included zentangle patterns near the center to right part of the drawing (the focal point). The result is the psychedelic drawing that I presented. It has many features similar to the hallucinogenic art made by Murakami but still holds true to my art style.

This is my interpretation of the project that we received. I got a lot of inspiration from objects and things around the house. I had also looked at a few examples from previous classes that had done the same thing. My mom and I have been sewing a lot and I have gotten a lot of the ideas from the buttons, thread, sewing rulers, and ribbon. I put the triangle in the middle because there is only one of them and it is really eye grabbing. I also thought that it brings a lot of the attention to the center and then your attention goes around the paper following all of the lines and the designs.

The drawing i made consists of many different shapes in different sizes. Adding a lot of different shapes inside one another makes it seem like a lot is going on which gives it a cool illusion. I also added pops of color which look cool under different colors of led lights. Although it took a while it was calming and I would do something like this in my free time.

If this was in an art gallery type thing I would say that this kind of art is purely creativity which is what I like the most. What I made was completely meaningless but at the same time I bet it shows a little bit about who you are. It’s like somebodies identity, a thumbprint, and this is mine. The lines and shapes I use are going to be completely different than those of someone else’s and that’s what makes this type of art so compelling. I also bet it changed with the type of mood you are in I don’t know for sure but there must be a correlation with the shapes and lines with what you are feeling and I like the thought of that.
